Breathing life
The most fundamental element to our living is breathing, it is our life-force. Most people breathe unconsciously and take it for granted, despite the fact that we will simply die if we stop even for a few minutes. The immensity of the importance of breathing is often underestimated.
Just by being conscious of our breath, we bring ourselves enormous benefits including calmness, focus and perhaps even the experience of a different dimension of life, one that we never knew existed.
Focusing on things that enhance our life-force should be a key emphasis in our day-to-day living. Chapter 1 of this book provides seven different means of enhancing this vital life-force. Depending on our needs, we may require work on one or more of these methods. As an example, those who live close to the wilderness where there is a higher concentration of oxygen in the air may only need some light exercises or breathing techniques to maximize their life-force. On the other extreme, those who live in highly polluted cities may need more drastic measures, such as the installation of home air purifiers, nurturing certain house plants, regularly visiting nature outside of the city and perhaps even undergoing oxygen therapies to help revitalize their life-force.
To allow a simple self-assessment of our day-to-day exposure to this life-force, some guidelines are provided that represent four progressive levels, level 1 being the most desired state and level 4 being the least. This self-assessment is quite subjective and merely a guideline, but with increased awareness and practice you should get to know your level intuitively. This is true for all seven of the essential ingredients discussed in this book.
